FAQs

I am thinking about joining the IAM, what is Group membership?

As a new member of IAM you will have 12 months free membership with our local Group, after that assuming you remain a member of the IAM, it will cost you £17.50 per year to continue.

Why do I need to be a member of a Group?

As all our advanced driving Experts are part of a Group, to have an Expert allocated to you, you must be part of the same Group.

What is an advanced driving Expert?

Also referred to as an Observer, is a person (Volunteer) who has already passed the Advanced Test and gone on to further in depth training  and qualified to train others to acheive their advanced test.

What is an Associate?

When you first join the IAM Roadsmart Group you are an IAM Associate until you have passed your Advanced Driving test.  Once you have passed your test you can remain an IAM Roadsmart member as a Full member.

What is expected of me?

We recommend that you try to do at least 1 drive per week with your Expert or at the very worst case 1 drive in a two week period. A typical observed run takes 1 to 1.5 hours.
